Daniel George Trudell

ELK POINT, S.D. -- Daniel G. Trudell, 73, of Elk Point went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 30, 2009. Family surrounded him at his residence at the time of his passing.
Memorial services will be noon Saturday at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com .
Daniel was born on Jan. 11, 1936, in Santee, Neb., to John E. and Cecelia B. (Dooley) Trudell. He moved to Sioux City at the age of five. He attended school in Santee, Sioux City and later at the St. Augustine Mission in Winnebago, Neb. After school, he joined the U.S. Marines.
He married Judith M. Cooper on Oct. 3, 1959, in Elk Point, S.D. Following his discharge from the Marines, he moved back to the Siouxland area until 1980, when they moved to the Minnesota area and then to the Elk Point area in 2004, where he had been a resident ever since.
He was a member of the Santee Sioux Nation. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling to Canada, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also, his dog, Buffy.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of Elk Point; two sons, Dale and Deb Trudell of Alexandria, Minn., and Daniel and Valerie Trudell of North Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Rebecca, Jennifer and Justin Trudell, Shaya, Kyla, Kellen, Dale Jr., Dakota, Dylan Trudell; two great-grandchildren, Michael Geary and Kaitlyn Cain-Trudell; a brother, Martin Trudell of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Patricia and Ron Stager of St. Croix Falls, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Antoin Trudell; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Trudell.
