SIOUX CITY -- Danny Dale McCune, 61, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunnybrook Community Church, with the Rev. Tim Squier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to

Danny was born Nov. 7, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of Dale and Nellie (Hooker) McCune. He attended school and graduated from Kingsley (Iowa) High School. He entered the U.S. Army in May 1968. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1971.
Danny married Karen Smith on Jan. 13, 1973. They made their home in Sioux City. He worked for Truck Haven Cafe for more than 27 years. He then drove truck for State Steel.
He was a member of New Hope Community Church. He was a light-hearted man who loved family activites, showing off the grandkids, grilling and smoking meat. He also enjoyed going to Lake Madison, water skiing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Karen McCune of Sioux City; a daughter, Angie McCune of Papillion, Neb.; a son, Brandon and Jennifer McCune of South Sioux City; three grandchildren, Jack, Danny and Jenna McCune; his parents, Dale and Nellie McCune of Kingsley, Iowa; a sister, Diane and Mike Mathison of Dow City, Iowa; a brother, Bill and Kim McCune of Spencer, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
