Darlene M. Barta

Sioux City, IA- Darlene M. Barta, 95, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at a local retirement community in Sioux City, IA.

A funeral service will be 10:30 am Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com.

Darlene was born May 4, 1928, in rural Yankton, SD the daughter of Frank and Julia (Martens) Rempp.

Darlene married Francis L. Barta on April 18, 1952, in Yankton.  The couple moved to Sioux City in 1953 and were lifetime residents. Darlene was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed doing embroidery work, caring for her flower gardens and baking. She was known for her pecan rolls and homemade pies.

Darlene is survived by a son, Brad (Michelle) of Sioux Falls, SD and a daughter, Linda (Roger) Chesley of Lenexa, KS; four grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Luetgers and Brittany (Aaron) Deming of Sioux Falls, SD,

Krista (Michael) Otto and Corey (Jamie) Chesley of Overland Park, KS;  great-grandchildren, Brayden and Micah Luetgers, Sloan, Coen, and Wells Deming, Elliana and Avery Otto; brothers, Robert (Sharon) Rempp of Paradise Valley, AZ, Larry Rempp and Ronald (Bette) Rempp of Henderson, NV; one sister, Wilma (James) Stoltz of Fort Meade, SC; sister-in-law, Arlene Rempp of El Cajon, CA; brother-in-law, Paul Nielson of Yankton SD; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Darlene is preceded in death by her husband on August 11, 2011; her parents; sisters, Ruth Jarrett, Betty Huber, Patricia Slowey, Judy Nielson; and brothers, Harvey, Merle, Frank Rempp.
