Sioux City - Darlene M. Brooks, 74, of Sioux City died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at her residence after a long battle with cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Divis officiating. Burial will be at a later date in McKay Cemetery, Carthage, Ill. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Darlene was born in Niobrara, Neb., on June 16, 1935, the daughter of Edward and Mildred (Malcom) Divis. She moved to Sioux City as a child. She lived in Minneapolis and returned to Sioux City.
She married Tony Trudell. He preceded her in death. She married Dean Brooks on July 6, 1963, he died in 1988. She drove a truck with her husband, Dean, for several years. They owned and operated their own trucks. After she returned to Sioux City, she worked at the Walmart in South Sioux City until she had to retire five years ago due to poor health.
She loved collecting dishes and crystal. She enjoyed crocheting clothing for stuffed bears. What she loved most was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her brother, Duane Divis of Sioux City; her sister, Lucille Malcom of Sioux City; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard and Alonzo; and her sister, Edna.
