Moville, Iowa - Darlene M. French, 82, of Moville died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Darlene was born July 21, 1931, at Parkston, S.D., the daughter of Ken and Tillie (Rittel) Coles. As a child, she moved with her family to Kingsley, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from Kingsley High School.
Darlene married Wyndham French on June 22, 1950, at Kingsley. Together they farmed near Moville and then Le Mars, Iowa, before returning to Moville in the early 1960s. Darlene worked at Marian Health Center for over 18 years, retiring in 1999.
She was an active member of Moville United Methodist Church. Darlene was also a member of the Red Hat Society and a volunteer at the Moville Senior Center. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing cards and the computer.
Survivors include her husband, Wyndham of Moville; two sons, Steve and Pam French of Moville, and Chuck and Jodi French of Lawton, Iowa; two daughters, Terri and Gary Steffen and Kim and Larry Hamman, all of Moville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Donna Long; and a brother, Larry Elliott.
