Darlene Gaul, a cherished resident of Sioux City, IA for many years, peacefully departed this life to join the Lord on March 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, in Germantown, MD. She was 91 years old.
Services honoring her life will be held on Friday, April 5, at 1:30 p.m. at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Her final resting place will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy and condolences can be shared online at www.christysmith.com.
Darlene entered this world on June 23, 1932, in LeMars, IA, born to Delno and Blanche Pinney (Bunch). She relocated to Sioux City, where she attended public schools and later earned her High School G.E.D.
In her earlier years, Darlene married Art Boyum and together they were blessed with three children, Gloria, Larry, and Jimmy Boyum, who tragically lost their lives in an automobile accident in 1964.
A woman of remarkable strength, Darlene found love once more and married Willard (Bill) Gaul on May 7, 1965, at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Together, they operated a T.V. repair business and shared a deep affection for music, travel, and family. Before this, Darlene worked at Johnson Biscuit and Company and Yonkers Department Store. In her later years, she dedicated herself to caring for children at Apple Tree DayCare. After relocating to Maryland to reside with her daughter Rhonda, Darlene embraced the opportunity to cherish moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her time there, she radiated a delightful sense of humor, boundless energy, and a youthful spirit that brought joy to those around her.
Darlene's legacy lives on through her daughters Roxanne Gaul and her partner, Art Fenical, residing in Sioux City, and Rhonda and her husband, Doug Freeman, residing in Germantown, MD. She is lovingly remembered by her cherished grandchildren, Brenden (Taylor) Brower, Mikaela (Bryson) Hewins, Jack Freeman, Charles Gaul-Fenical, and great-grandchildren Brooks, Catherine, and Logan. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Cheryl (Pete) Eddy, her brother Jim Pinney, and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and their three children, her parents, her husband Bill, and two brothers.
May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
