Darlene G. Thomsen-Mahrt, 93, of Lawton passed away Friday, April 29, 2016, at Char-Mac in Lawton.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rock Branch United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Rock Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.
Darlene was born on June 8, 1922, in Sioux City to John and Gertrude (Kistle) Barth. To that union of marriage five children were born, Orville Barth, Marall Barth, Leta Johnson-Barth, Darlene Thomsen-Mahrt and Eugene Barth. Darlene started school at Salix (Iowa) Community, then went on to Pierson (Iowa) Public and Anthon (Iowa) High School.
She was united to marriage to Ferd Thomsen on Aug. 19, 1941. To this union two children were born, Fonda and Stanley Thomsen. Darlene and Ferd farmed in Woodbury County for most of their lives. She was a dedicated farm wife who attended Rock Branch Methodist Church and had held several offices. Darlene and Ferd retired and moved to Sioux City, which at that time Darlene worked at two different nursing homes as a housekeeper. On May 9, 1976, Ferd preceded Darlene in death. In 1979, she married John Mahrt of Anthon.
She enjoyed family get togethers and all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, John Mahrt; daughter, Fonda (Bob) Sievert of Storm Lake, Iowa; son, Stanley (Debbie) Thomsen of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ferd; four siblings; and infant son, Richard Ray.
