Darlene M. Peterson, 78, of Sioux City, met her Lord Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Church of Christ. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Funeral Home Morningside Chapel.
Darlene was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Leo E. and Alice (Haley) Morton. She grew up in Cherokee, and graduated from Wilson High School in 1952.
She married Clarence "Ted" Peterson in December 1952. They lived in Hutchinson, Kan., where her husband was stationed with the Navy.
Upon returning to Cherokee, they owned and operated Peterson Refrigeration Service until moving to Sioux City in 1970. In 1980 they started Peterson Air Conditioning and Heating Service in Sioux City and operated it until they sold it to their son. Darlene retired in 1999.
She was a member of Morningside Church of Christ. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, "Ted"; children, Jane (Jim) Scott of Columbia, Mo., David (Patty) Peterson of Sioux City and Patti Gill of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Josh (Julie) Scott, Kate (Fred) Wolfmeyer, Benjamin Gill, Tessa Gill, Alyssa Gill, Sammy Peterson and Nate Peterson; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Joann) Morton Sioux City; four brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Leona Smith.
