Darrell Harrison

November 28, 1929 — January 9, 2016

Darrell "Buck" Harrison, 86, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at a local nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hinton Methodist Church in Hinton, Iowa. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Buck was born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Sioux City, to Carter and Ella (Arndt) Harrison. He graduated from Hinton High School in 1947, and went on to join the U.S. Army in 1948. While in the Army, he was a decorated war veteran, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was stationed in Germany and Japan. He was also stationed in several bases in the United States. He retired in 1969 as a master sergeant, E-8.
He was united in marriage to Opal Bates on Aug. 4, 1954, in Hinton. Buck worked for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1990.
Buck was a member of the American Legion in Hinton, and Hinton Methodist Church. Buck loved his family and sports.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Opal of Sioux City; children, Leslie (Terry) Riediger of Lawton, Iowa, Darrell D. (DiAnn) Harrison Jr. of Monroe, N.C., Kent (Alice) Harrison of Lincoln, Neb., and Teresa (Matt) Weesner of Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen (Conrad) Erickson of Sioux City, and Betty Woolworth of Washington; sister-in-law, Doris (Gordon) Arndt of Hinton; brother-in-law, Lowell (Virginia) Bates of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children; and a sister, Fanny Bogner.
