Darrell Jay Wingert, 64, of Sioux City passed away Aug. 4, 2015 at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Deacon Marcus Potts officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date Memorial Park Cemetery.
Darrell was born on April, 8, 1951, in Sioux City, to Atwood and Clara (Lichty) Wingert. He attended Hawthorne School and graduated from Leeds High School in 1970. He worked for Curtis Trucking and Midwest Continental Trucking for 45 years.
He enjoyed restoring old tractors and entering them at local county fairs. Darrell was a friend to all, was always eager to help a friend in need, and never asked for a favor in return. Nature and watching wildlife was one of his greatest passions.
Survivors include his sister, Joyce (Charles) Sloniger of Cambridge, Iowa; a nephew, Gregg (Maggi) Sloniger of Cottonwood, Ariz.; a niece, Melissa Sloniger of Munich, Germany; grandnephews, Gage and Mason Sloniger; and grandniece, Eva Marie Moore of Munich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Matthew Carl Sloniger.
