SIOUX CITY -- David A. Alfredson, 70, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Heartland Baptist Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
David was born on Dec. 23, 1941, in Onawa, to Albert and Murl (Fegenbush) Alfredson. He attended and graduated from Sloan (Iowa) Consolidated High School in 1960. He later attended Briar Cliff College and received his master's from Kingsway Theological Seminary. He had his doctorate completed as well.
He was united in marriage to Pat Keil on Aug. 4, 1962, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed with Kent Feeds for 30 plus years. He was the minister at Malone AME for several years.
He was a volunteer for the Siouxland Ex-Offenders Prison Ministry. David and his beloved dog, Sophie, volunteered at the Onawa nursing home on Tuesday mornings and had a Thursday morning Bible study at the nursing home as well.
David loved to educate himself and others. He enjoyed taking walks with Sophie, reading his Bible, car shows, cooking, watching Red Green, shooting and fishing.
Survivors include his children, Bryan and Annette Alfredson of Moville, Iowa, Krista Alfredson and Ondo Ovono of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dianna and Richard Ross of New Windsor, N.Y., Stacy Taylor of Lincoln, Neb., Nicole and Bruce Kerst of Omaha, Diondra Alfredson of Omaha, Seth Alfredson of Billings, Mont., Adam and Stephanie Alfredson, Angelica Alfredson, Joshua Alfredson, and Chauntee and Kasey Vergith, all of Sioux City; his friend, Pat Alfredson; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Everett Alfredson.
