SIOUX CITY -- David C. Fry, 64, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
David was born on Oct. 4, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Charles "Joe" and Eileen (Caple) Fry. He moved to Sioux City as a child and attended Sioux City grade schools and graduated from East High School in 1964. In 1968 he was called up with the Air National Guard to serve in Korea. After his service he returned to Sioux City, where he graduated from Morningside College.
On July 28, 1973, David married Karen Rodgers at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City. David owned and operated M. B. S. Construction, a family business that started with his father. He was still active in the business at the time of his death.
He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, Whispering Creek Golf Course, the Masonic Lodge and the Abu Bekr Shrine. Throughout his life, David had many hobbies and interests. He collected guns, coins and books. He loved restoring classic cars and going to car shows. He loved playing golf and cards with his friends. He loved music and was the self-proclaimed "King of Rock & Roll." He had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh. Most of all he loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be forever missed.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Sioux City; three children and their spouses, Jenny and Michael Zitariuk of Kansas City, Joe and Jayme Fry of Chicago, and Julie and Jimmy Smith of Kansas City; two grandchildren, Max and Maya (and an unborn grandchild due in February); his sister and her husband, Glenda and Lee O'Brien of Des Moines; his mother-in-law, Frances Rodgers of Sioux City; four sisters-in-law and their husbands, Colleen and Bill Hagemeyer, Kathy and Joe Cominiello, Patty and Jerry Brower, and Debbie and Rick Lieber; a brother-in-law and his wife, Jim and Melissia Rodgers, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in his name for Hospice of Siouxland and Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools.
