SIOUX CITY -- David Alan Desy, 55, of Sioux City was welcomed home to heaven on March 23, 2011, to be with his Lord and Savior.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Denzer of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to

David was born July 7, 1955, in Sioux City, the son of Fred E. and Marjorie A. (Schultzen) Desy. David was a special needs person, he lived in Glenwood, Iowa, from 1962 to 1985, when he returned to live at Courage Homes in Morningside.
David's joys in life were his mother's cooking, teasing his dad, throwing rocks in water and riding horses. He gave joy to his family when he sang Happy Birthday to them. He was very playful and liked people. He would talk to anyone. He participated in Special Olympics in softball throwing and running. He loved to look at old family pictures. He enjoyed music and opening presents.
He is survived by his parents, Fred and Marge Desy of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Suzanne Desy of Sioux City; two sisters, Lori Newell and her husband, John of Sioux City and Diane Desy of Sioux City; nieces and nephews, Karen, Cody, Shadyn and Raylie Newell; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the administration and staff of Courage Homes and Mid-Step Services for all their kindness to David. They also want to extend their thanks to the Siouxland Paramedics and nurses and personal at Mercy medical Emergency for answering the numerous calls to help David.
