SIOUX CITY -- David Paul Nugent, 83, Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Rev. Merrill Muller will officiate. Burial will be Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
David was born March 28, 1927, in Cannelton, Ind., the son of Charles W. and Minnie (Garrett) Nugent. He moved to Sioux City in 1934 and attended Sioux City schools. David served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He married Mary Jo Collier on September 11, 1971, in Lakeport, N.Y. David worked for the Prichard Tower Erection Company building microwave towers for many years. He retired in 1985.
David loved to work with electronics and was a whiz with computers. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and was an avid coin collector. He was a much loved and respected stepfather and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo "Mickey" of Sioux City; a daughter, Marlis Rooney of South Sioux City; 10 grandchildren including, Jillian Rooney of South Sioux City; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Linda and Richard McCarty of Springfield, Ill., Judy and Jerry Miller of Prattville, Ala.; and a brother, James Nugent.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wesley "Gene" Nugent; and two stepsons, Kevin and Anthony Weller.
