David E. Steele

David Edward Steele, 65, of Sioux City, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 2, 2024, after his battle with cancer. 

A visitation will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Larkin Chapel (2320 Outer Drive N.).  A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Larkin Chapel. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

Son of Jackie D. Steele and Darlene Brunssen, David took pole position of his life on November 19, 1959. After the green flag dropped and his race started, he took up multiple positions including Ice house work, Tow truck driving, Aalfs Manufacturing, and many more. Life threw him a caution flag where he retired from Broyhill due to a heart related issue.
  
David met the love of his life, Jackie Heckt, and made her his crew chief on November 8, 1978. David and Jackie built their pit crew by adding their children Brandie, Shanon, Jill and Chanler.  

After the caution, David and Jackie decided to add even more to the pit crew by adopting 6 additional members; Ricky, Zach, Macen, Angel, Derrick and Travis. As well as fostering 40 others. 

David's hobbies included racing cars, fishing, camping, road trips. But David's biggest passion was spending time with his crew chief & pit crew, as well as countless other beloved family members and friends.
 
His checkered flag flew on May 2nd after his hard fought battle with cancer, surrounded by the people he loved the most. 
 
David is survived by his wife Jackie; children: Brandie, Shanon, Jill (Jesse), Chanler (Kendall), Sean, Ricky, Zach, Macen, Angel, Derrick, and Travis; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; siblings: Steve (Linda), Pam (Curtis), Jackson, Kim, Father Jackie D.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
 
David is preceded in death by Sister-in-law Janet, Brother-in-laws Ben and Jay, In-Laws Mel and Pat, Uncle Elmer, Aunt Carole, Nephew Andy, Steve DeRaad, Maternal and Paternal grandparents, and Mother Darlene.
