Dean Mason Clark

Dean Mason Clark, 94, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 2320 Outer Drive, with the Rev. David Koehler of Morningside Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Luncheon will be held at the American Legion, McNiff Post 389 in Anthon immediately following the burial service. Visitation with the family will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Dean was born on Sept. 23, 1921, in Anthon, the son of Washington L. and Linda Clark. He was raised on a farm near Anthon and graduated from Anthon High School. Dean attended Wayne State College for one year before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. He served as sergeant in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Dean returned to Anthon where he married Shirley (Rupp) on Nov. 27, 1949. They lived in Sioux City and had two children, Rebecca "Becky" and Craig Clark. Dean worked for Kidder-Knoepfler Chevrolet for 35 years. In his retirement, he drove for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center and Siouxland Paramedics. Dean's wife Shirley passed away on July 28, 1985, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dean later met his companion Mardell Sorensen, and they enjoyed many travels together throughout 28 years.
He lived a very active lifestyle with a spirited sense of humor. Dean enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, volunteering for Hospice and golfing until he was 91 years young.
Dean is survived by his son, Craig (Toni) Clark of Rogersville, Mo.; his granddaughter, Erin (Mike) Boomsma of Dakota Dunes; his grandson, Brody (Devon) Clark of Nixa, Mo.; and great-granddaughter, Braelyn Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Clark; his brother, Washington "Red" Clark; his daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Clark; a niece, Lori Steenhoven; and companion, Mardell Sorensen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice.
