Dean L. Snyder, 90, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 7, 2022, in Sioux City.

Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, September 14th from 5 - 8 PM, a prayer service will begin at 7 PM with Pastor Jim Wilson of Glendale Baptist Church officiating, at the Larkin Chapel of Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, located at 2320 Outer Drive North in Sioux City. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 15 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

Dean L. Snyder was born February 6, 1932, in Northampton, PA the first child of eight, to Walter R. and Naveda P. (Frederick) Snyder. He grew up and attended public school in Northampton. The son of a carpenter he grew up to become a homebuilder in the Lehigh Valley, PA area. As a youth, Dean raced stock cars and motorcycles. In the late 1950’s, Dean changed careers and become an over the road truck driver. During the course of that time, he met the love of his life, Ruth Stokes. She was a waitress at the Palmer House Restaurant in Sioux City. Just like CW McCall and Mavis the waitress, they fell in love. They married in 1960 and enjoyed over 62 years of marriage. Dean returned to his construction career and worked for many years for Norman Swanson Homebuilders. In 1970, he obtained his realtor’s license. He worked for Results Realty, Swanson Realty, and Homeland Realty. In 1984, he opened his own company Cardinal Realty, where he and his wife Ruth managed the business until his retirement. He attained the designations as a realtor, GRI, CRS and was the manager of the Siouxland area for VA and FHA properties. He worked in real estate for over 30 years. Dean was an avid sportsman. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping. For many years he spent weekends in Yankton, SD and Whetstone Bay, SD. He also enjoyed travelling with Ruth. After retirement, they took an 8000-mile journey to visit family in Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and Missouri. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dean is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth, daughter, Arlene (Lonnie) Higgins travelling, son Dean Jr. (Jody) Snyder of Sioux City, son, David of Omaha, NE. Six grandchildren, Zach Snyder, Albuquerque, NM, Zeb Snyder, Houston, TX, Zeke (Amanda) Snyder, Albuquerque, NM, Bridget (Doug) Martin, Buckner, MO, Patrick (Allison) Higgins, Rochester, MN, and Katie (Jon) Sullivan, Salix, IA, Nineteen great grandchildren, Alex, Ayden, Austin Snyder, Luke, Max and Collette Snyder, Zane, Zoey, Zuri, Zyah Snyder, Brayden, Sydney Martin, Jackson, Liam Higgins, Jasper, Lincoln, Shepherd, Atlas, Dutch Sullivan. Brother, Darwin, Sisters, Dawn (Gary) Smith, Donna (Jim) Edmonds and Darlene (Bill) Brown. Sisters-in-law Doris and Mary Stokes, brother-in-law Walt (Connie) Stokes, special nephew, Scott (Lucinda) Snyder, Saylorsburg, PA plus many more nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dennis and Dale Snyder of Nazareth, PA, a sister, Diane Mazziotta of Neffs, PA, Son, Russell Snyder, daughters-in-law, Connie Snyder and Cathy Snyder, sister-in-law, Martha (Gary) Switzer. Brothers-in-law Harvey Jr, and his wife Kelly Stokes, and Donald Stokes.
