Sergeant Bluff - Debra Rae "Debbie" Bartling, 62, of Sergeant Bluff entered into heaven Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at A Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sergeant Bluff Community United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Debra was born on May 9, 1951, in Deshler, Neb., the daughter of Jesse and Donna (Overman) Newman. She attended school Deshler High School.
Debra was united in marriage to Robert Bartling on June 8, 1969. After a few moves, they began their family in Hebron, Neb., moving to Norfolk, Neb. in 1973 and finally to Sergeant Bluff in 1977. Deb and Robert owned and operated Sioux City Sprinkler. She also had worked at Bluff Stop Grocery, HyVee, Day’s Door Company and at Community United Methodist Church as the secretary.
Deb was a member of Sergeant Bluff United Methodist Church, SBFD Women’s Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Bowling League. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross. She loved going to her children's and grandchildren's activities. Deb also enjoyed camping, crocheting, John Wayne films, playing cards and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Bartling of Sergeant Bluff; four daughters, Angie and Tim Higgins of Sioux City, Barb and Brent Jensen of Sergeant Bluff, Brenda and Jason Waugh of Sergeant Bluff, and Michelle and Jameson Peters of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Mathew, Hailey, Abby, Hannah, Mercedes, Isabell, Myah, Caden and Tristan; her mother, Donna Newman of Lincoln; and two sisters, Penny and Jerry Klug of Pleasant Dale, Neb., and Jodi and Brad Schliefert of Milford, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Newman and Fred and Goldie Bartling.
A memorial fund has been established at Pioneer Bank in Debra's name.
