Delmar E. Gamble, 88, of Sioux City, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Arrangements are with Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Delmar was born May 30, 1926, in Cloverton, Minn., the son of Richard and Dorothy (Harvey) Gamble. He moved with his family to Sioux City when he was a teenager, graduating from Central High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II in occupied Japan.
Delmar married Ruby "Helen" Abrams on Oct. 2, 1949.
He worked for Western Electric for 12 years, and at Northwestern Bell for more than 25 years, retiring in 1982. Helen died in December 2002.
Delmar was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Telephone Pioneers and the Tri State Coachman Caravan No. 56 camping club.
Survivors include four children, Susan (Gene) Decker of Lexington, Neb., Donald (Cheryl) Gamble of Sioux City, Bruce (Lori) Gamble of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Scott (Diane) Gamble of Delano, Minn.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fran Gamble of Minneapolis, Minn., and Marilyn Boyce of Springfield, Ill.; half-sister, Sandy Sladek of Edina, Minn.; very special friend, Millie Blanchard; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; daughter, Barbara Brown; two brothers, Richard and Lawrence Gamble; and two sisters, Phyllis Oliver and Maxine Rice.
