Delmer Q. Black, 87, of Anthon passed away Sunday, May, 3, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by his family.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Delmer was born on Dec. 24, 1927, in Kingsley, Iowa, to Floyd and Maude (Moser) Black. He was raised in Kingsley and graduated from Kingsley High in 1945. In 1946, he enlisted with the U.S. Army for three years and served in Japan.
Delmer was united in marriage to Dona Whitead on Dec. 10, 1949, in Sioux City. He was employed at Lincoln Seed and Feed, as a mechanic for the city of Sioux City, Roberts Dairy, and with the Sergeant Bluff School System for 13 years before retiring.
Delmer was a decorated Shrine Clown since 1979, an officer at the Lodge since 1981, president of the Abu Becker Camper Unit, Clown Unit, and the Leeds Triangle Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and traveling. Delmer and Dona had spent the last 20 winters in Texas.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dona of Anthon; children, Rick (Kristen) Black of Utah, Cindy (David) Smith of Hinton, Iowa, and Jeff (Donna) Black of Anthon; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Wingert of Nevada, Iowa, and Marlene (LeMoyine) Phillips of Coon Rapids, Minn.; brother-in-law, Joe Whitead of Boise, Idaho; and sister-in-law, Betty Black of Sioux City.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and five sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in the Twin Cities.
