Delores Dorothy "Dee Dee" Nelson, 86, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Delores was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Switzer) Daniels. She grew up in the South Bottoms of Sioux City where she began attending school. Dee later moved to the west side and graduated mid-term from Central High School in 1947. She continued her education at WIT by attending nurse's aide school.
During the years, Dee was a bartender at several establishments around Sioux City. She also worked as an aide at Woodland Convalescent Home in Woodland, Wash., and at Sunrise Manor in Sioux City.
Dee was involved in family service. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed puzzles and reading.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Ann) Hawkins of Weeping Water, Neb., Bill (Gay) Hawkins of Arlington, Texas, and Steven (Karen) Hawkins of Nuevo, Calif.; three daughters, Susan Marie Rembe of Burnsville, Minn., Paula (Joel) Grosenheider of Moville, Iowa, and Kimberly Ruth Nelson of Sioux City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Hawkins; and a son, Edward Hawkins.
