Delores J. Sorokowski

Sioux City - Delores Jean Sorokowski, 85, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at Avera McKennan Hospital in S.D.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born July 20, 1927, in Sioux City, to Adaunto Edward and Mae (Frederick) Casillas.
On Dec. 3, 1949, she married Stanley Sorokowski Sr. They had a daughter, Victoria "Vickie" Schuette, and a son, Stanley Sorokowski Jr.
She lived lived in Sioux City until December 2007, when she moved to Keelson Harbour, an assisted living facility in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She made many friends while residing there. She enjoyed playing jokes on them, especially Mike, the maintenance man. Ruth Durst became her close friend, and they would get together and have a fun time chatting.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City.
She took pride in gardening flowers and vegetables. Her neighbors benefited from her garden's bounty. Delores enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Her pineapple-upside-down cake was a favorite of her son, and her grandsons especially liked her banana cream pie.
Delores loved people and always wanted to help others. She truly loved her pets whether it was a cat or a dog. When living in Sioux City, she always had one or the other living with her.
Survivors include her daughter, Vickie (Wayne) Schuette of Spirit Lake; her son Stanley (Barbara) Sorokowski Jr. of Sioux City; two grandsons, Brandon Schuette (girlfriend Michelle Prather and her daughter Faith) of Milford, Iowa, and Travis (Mindy) Schuette and their son Kyler of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
