Dennis Anthony Schoenfelder, 84, of North Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at his residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Very Rev. Terry Roeder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Dennis was born on Jan. 6, 1934, in Dimock, S.D., the son of Fernand and Elizabeth (Kummer) Schoenfelder. He attended school in Kennebec, S.D., and graduated from high school in 1951. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957.
Following his discharge, Dennis was united in marriage with Mary Joan Sullivan on June 28, 1958, in Mitchell, S.D. The couple lived most of their lives in the Sioux City area, where they owned and operated K-D Fir Farm, a mink ranch, for 25 years as well as Fashion Fur. In later years, he worked for Custom Wood works until retiring in 2007. The couple moved to North Sioux City in July 2017 from Sioux City.
Dennis was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed talking to people, loved children and caring for stray animals.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Joan; his grandchildren, Chad Schoenfelder and his wife, Jamie, and Kelli Petersen and her husband, James; three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gracie, and Madison, and one on the way; his brother, Willard "Curly" Schoenfelder; and a sister, Virginia Casey.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cathy; a brother, Clem; and a sister, Anita.
