SIOUX CITY -- Dennis Dean Skokan, 68, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Morningside Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kevin Lee officiating. Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Dennis was born on Feb. 5, 1941, in Verdigre, Neb., the son of George and Evelyn (Soucek) Skokan. He was raised in the Niobrara, Neb., area. He graduated from Niobrara High School in 1958, and then attended Wayne State College.
On Oct. 19, 1963, he married Marjorie Kaiser in Sioux Falls, S.D. Dennis managed West Lumber & Coal Co. in Bonesteel, S.D., and Fullerton Lumber Co. in Burke, S.D., and Wayne, Neb. He also worked at Fullerton Lumber in Vermillion, S.D., and Sioux City. He was a mail carrier in South Sioux City. After he left the post office, he worked at Tri-State Millwork in Sioux City.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and was a member of the Western Fraternal Life Organization (ZCBJ) for more than 50 years. Dennis enjoyed camping, traveling and doing handy work for friends, neighbors and anyone in need. He was a blood donor of more than 40 gallons and an organ donor.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Sioux City; his son, Troy of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary and Shayna; a great-grandchild, Logan; two brothers and their wives, George and Mary Ellen Skokan of Camp Verde, Ariz., and Ken and Lynn Skokan of Tyndall, S.D.; a sister and her husband, Mary Ann and Richard Tramp of Belgrade, Mont.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial has been established in his name and may be directed to the family.
