Diane Kay Sorensen

Sioux City, IA - Diane Sorensen, of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022, at age 69. Diane Kay (Traxler) Sorensen was born July 11, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio to Charles and Twila Traxler. In her youth, Diane lived in Ohio, New Jersey, and Illinois.

A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com .

Diane attended Morningside College, where she earned her BA degree in Social Work in 1975. She earned her MSW from the University of Iowa in 1987 and became a Licensed Independent Social Worker in 1993. She practiced social work for a combined 42 years at St. Luke’s Hospital, Area Education Agency, and Siouxland Mental Health, respectively.

Diane married Scott Sorensen on August 30, 1975. They had two sons, Phillip and Eric. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Twila (Wagar) Traxler. She is survived by her sister, Brenda (Eric) Hulphers; her husband, Scott Sorensen; her sons, Phillip and Eric (Sarah) Sorensen; and her granddaughter, Mia Sorensen.

Diane was a certified Master Gardener. She enjoyed working in her garden, being active in the Sioux City Garden Club, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. The arrival of baby Mia to the family in 2022 brought special joy to her heart.

In lieu of flowers, Diane’s family requests that donations be made to June E. Nylen Cancer Center, University of Nebraska Medicine (Buffett Cancer Center), the Sioux City Warming Shelter, or the Food Bank.
