Dixie Lou Bunch (Derby)

March 31, 1947 — January 19, 2008

Dixie L. Bunch, 60, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Valerie Heller of Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dixie was born Osmond, Neb., on March 31, 1947, the daughter of Archie E. and Opal (Gwinn) Derby. She lived in Bloomfield, Neb., for a year before moving to South Sioux City. She attended South Sioux City High School.

On Feb. 21, 1971, she married John S. Bunch Jr. in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City. She worked at Hardee's at the mall for several years. She baby-sat for many years and cherished the relationship that she had with each of those families.

She enjoyed camping, fishing and going to the casino, but what she loved most was spoiling her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, John Jr. of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Michelle and Tim Roth of Terril, Iowa, and Missy and Ivan Johnson of Smithland, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Reese Roth, Kolton Roth, Arielle Roth, Spencer Roth, Justin Johnson, Brandie and her husband, Adam Raub, Johnny Bunch and Veric Swenson; three great-grandchildren, Katana and Cambrie and Riley Johnson; a brother and his wife, Gary and Cheryl Derby of Sioux City; a sister, Carol Smith of Florida; and many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother.

Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Johnson, Brandie Raub, Johnny Bunch, Veric Swenson, Reese Roth, Kolton Roth, Arielle Roth and Spencer Roth.

A memorial had been established in her name for the American Cancer Society.

She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
