Dolorus Jacqueline McKenna (Petersen)

SIOUX CITY | Dolorus J. McKenna, 78, Sioux City died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at a Sioux City Hospital after a courageous, four-month battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, in the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Dolorus was born on April 20, 1934 in Clinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leo and Pauline (Outzen) Petersen. She was raised in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1952.
On Oct. 13, 1966, she married Thomas McKenna in Clinton, Iowa. The couple lived in Clinton until they moved to Wickenburg, Ariz., in 1969. In 1987, they then moved to Sheldon, Iowa, until they moved to Sioux City in February 2011. While in Clinton and Sheldon, Dolorus worked in the sales department for J.C. Penney. She also worked in the accounting department for different companies.
Dolorus was a member of the Catholic faith. She loved horseback riding and, in Arizona, she was a member of Las Damas Horse Riding Club. She also enjoyed sewing, traveling but spending time with her family was the most important part of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Sioux City; four children, Lee Broadrick and Roberta Short of Wickenburg, Ariz., Lynn Broadrick of Clinton, Iowa, Lory and Barry Rickertsen of Clinton, and Jon and Melissa McKenna of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Koepp of Lawrence, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Gen Schwarz, Donna and Don Waddell, Ginny Leu, all of Clinton, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Mercy Medical Center's Oncology floor staff, Hospice of Siouxland, June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Countryside Rehab Center and Dr. Michael Brenner and staff for their wonderful care and support of Dolorus and her family throughout her illness.
