Don F. Bentson, 77, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Don was born in Sioux City, on Sept. 12, 1940, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Ford) Bentson. He attended Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from East High School in January 1959. He also served in the Army National Guard. Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 4, 1959 and proudly served his country for more than three years.
He was united in marriage with Loretta Simeon on Sept. 12, 1960 in Sioux City. Loretta preceded him in death on April 16, 2018 in Sioux City. He stayed as long as he could so that he could be with her, like the man and gentleman he was.
Don was the founder and past owner of Bentson Pest Control, which he established in 1975. He was past president of the Iowa State Pest Control Association. He retired in 2002. He worked at the Sioux City Welcome Center and retired again from there in 2016. He enjoyed fishing, telling fish stories, traveling, making and fixing things, going to the casino and teasing Loretta and his grandkids. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile on his face all the time. He loved spending time with his family.
Don’s survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Bentson of Sioux City; his sons, Steven (Kelli) Bentson of Lawton, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Amanda) Bentson of Sioux City; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his two sisters, Sherree Ogren of Marcus, Iowa, and Sonya (Steve) Ohl of Salix, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordon Bentson, and Bruce Bentson; and a sister, Barbara Kelly.
