Donald "Don" Amick, 91, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 at Countryside Retirement Home, Sioux City.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Nan Allen of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is on Friday, August 24, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. all at the funeral home
Don was born to William Jacob Amick and Alice (Porter) Amick on July 29, 1916 in Bronson, Iowa. He attended and graduated Bronson High School. On July 30, 1939 Don and Amelia "Meadie" VanBuskirk were united in marriage in Sioux City. Don lived in the Siouxland area, with the majority of the time working on the family farm in Lawton, Iowa. He spent his retirement years in Sioux City. In his younger days he worked at Armours until it closed. Don was an assembly worker for Wilson Trailer, retiring in 1978.
Don enjoyed bowling, playing pool, going on outings with his siblings, enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to eat out. He participated in several activities from the local Senior Center.
He is survived by his daughters, Hope Duffy of Perry, Iowa, Wendy and her husband Kevin Magnussen of Moville, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Amick of Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother, Edward and his wife Dorothy Amick of Sioux City; a sister, Margaret and her husband Leo Fish of Springfield, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Amelia in 1968; a daughter Sandra Jorgenson; a son Gary Amick; sons-in-law, Dennis Jorgenson and Thomas P. Duffy; brothers, Glen, Harrison, Roy, Harley and Louis and sisters, Mabel Uhl and Helen Sheets.
