Donald G. Brauninger, 85, of Correctionville died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at his home in Correctionville.
A gathering and lunch with family and friends in his memory will be 12 to 2 p.m. Sunday, February 22, at the Correctionville Community Center. Anyone who would like to bring a salad or dessert, or would like to display a toy that Don made for them, please contact Yvonne "Dolly" McFarland at (515)291-7877. Donald Brauninger was born May 24, 1929 at Correctionville, the son of Ernest and Hazel (Zahnley) Brauninger. He grew up and attended school at Correctionville. After graduating, Don joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He married Patricia Spahn in 1950. Together they made their home and farmed near Correctionville.
Don was very sociable. He enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone. Don loved being around his grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed tractor pulls and making toys out of wood. He won many awards locally and nationally while competing in tractor pulls. He also enjoyed target shooting with his son, Daniel, who recently passed away.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Brauninger of Correctionville; daughter, Yvonne (Dave) McFarland of Correctionville; four grandchildren, Eric (Tammy) Boock, Kelly (Kenny) Shever, Jamie (Richard) Spotten and Jessica Brauninger; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Neva Gray of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and a brother, Bob Brauninger of Correctionville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Brauninger; a sister, Ellen; and a brother, Lewis.
