Donald D. Heath, 82, of Sioux City passed away at his home on Sunday, September 6, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00am Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Pastor Laurice Streffler will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Don was born on August 24, 1933 in Correctionville, Iowa. He was the son Orval and Ada (Edwards) Heath. He was raised in Correctionville and graduated from Correctionville High School. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served on a ship during the Korean War. On August 23, 1958 he married Sandra Spencer at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. Don worked in the Woodbury County Treasurer's Office as a deputy treasurer for 38 years. He retired in 1995. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and The Masonic Consistory. He also served on the board of the Municipal Credit Union and served on the Veterans Affairs Commission. In addition, he served as a volunteer at St. Luke's hospital and on the Sgt. Floyd steamboat at the Lewis & Clark Travel Center. Don enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and watching the Hawkeyes. He was a member of the Missouri River Runners' club and ran in many races. He loved sports in general and served as a Little League Coach for his children.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandra of Sioux City, 4 children, Becky (Stewart) Medbourn of Sioux City, Mike (Debra) of Sioux City, Gary (Anita) of Sioux City, John (Carolyn) of La Crosse, WI, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his sister, Sharon (Steve) Caskey of Sioux City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in his name for Hospice of Siouxland.
