Donald K. Johnson, 63, of Sioux City, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 26, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Christy Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Don was born in Sioux City on May 12, 1951, to Wayne and Dorothy Johnson. He grew up in Sioux City, graduating from East High and Iowa State University in business, with a minor in construction. He married Leslie Gallagher in 1976 and raised four children while living in Arizona, Colorado, and Wisconsin. In 2010, Don moved to Sioux City to work with his brother, Doug in construction. He reconnected with many high school classmates and friends and enjoyed time with his family. In October, Don invited his children to a gathering in Sioux City, which was enjoyed by everyone. Don had a passion and talent for his work, and was a gifted planner and organizer. He enjoyed his fellow workers and the customers he served. Don will be remembered for lighting up every room he entered and certainly for his unique sense of humor.
Don is survived by his children: Jeremy (Kristen), grandchildren Ainsley & Porter, of Madison, WI, Nick (Carrie), Minneapolis, MN, Kristi, Madison, WI, Katie Johnson and Kyle Goodno, St. Louis; father Wayne (Betty) Johnson, Sioux City ; siblings: Diane Mead and family of Colorado, Doug and family , Sioux City, Dennis and family , WI, and step-brothers and sisters of the Lund Family.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
