SIOUX CITY -- Donald Eugene Lewis, 88, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in Fayetteville, Ark.
There will be a Masonic service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Donald Eugene Lewis was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Johnson County, Ind., to Shyard and Dollie (Gaunce) Lewis. He attended and graduated from Morgantown High School in Indiana. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in February 1943 and was honorably discharged in December 1945.
He married Betty Lou Jacobs on June 26, 1945, in Sioux City. He worked as a carpenter throughout his life, building homes. He specialized in cabinetry. Betty passed away on April 27, 1995.
Donald was a life member of the Sioux City VFW Post 580, Elk Point (S.D.) American Legion Post 134, McCook Lake (S.D.) Isaac Walton League, Abu Bekr Shrine, SAHIBS Scottish Rite, and the Masonic Lodge North Riverside 662, where he was a past Master.
Survivors include his daughters, Lynette Jean Lewis of Sioux City, and Kristy and Tom Oelberg of New Ulm, Minn.; grandchildren, Angela (Jeff) Williams, Allan Allard, Wyatt and Sydney Oelberg, and Joleen Fix; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Allyson Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and a daughter, Donita Fix.
