Donald W. Stuart, 80, of Worthington, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008, at a Lakefield, Minn. nursing home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with Chaplain Irwin Van Leeawen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Don was born April 8, 1928, in Sioux City, to Raymond and Gladys (Grace) Stuart. He grew up and attended school in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in Guam and aboard the U.S. Bremerton from 1946 to 1947. He later served in the reserves in Korea during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1951.
He married Vivian Mae on Jan. 15, 1950, in Sioux City. She passed away Aug. 13, 1973. He later married Gladys (Heiden) Dreeszen on Sept. 23, 1978, in Sioux City.
He was employed with Mid American Energy for 39 years as a lineman, retiring in 1988. After retirement, the couple moved to the Fergus Falls, Minn., area and lived on Stalker Lake and Deer Lake. They moved to Worthington in 1999.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He had built his own lake home in northern Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Worthington; sons, Darrel and Coleen Stuart of South St. Paul, Minn., and Dennis Wayne and Valeria Stuart of Shoreview, Minn.; five grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Marva and Thomas Ruden of East Alton, Ill., and Janice and Gene Franck of Marcus, Iowa; and seven stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; a brother, Harold Stuart; and two sisters, Florence Ludwig and Neva Wheelock.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Casey Stuart, Scott Stuart, Jim Stuart, Rob Franck, Angela Stuart and Kim Stuart.
