Donald V. Williams, 90, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Donald was born on Nov. 24, 1924, in Sioux City. He was the son of Clarence and Margaret (Adams) Williams. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1943. He was a Seabee in the United States Navy and stationed in the Pacific Islands during World War II.
After the service he returned to Sioux City, where he married Lucille Haas on Nov. 3, 1948. Don owned and operated Mercer and Williams Excavating and later, D.V. Williams Excavating. He was subcontracted to Purina Mills and subsequently, Land O'Lakes Purina for over 40 years. He retired in July of 2010.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Don loved traveling and had traveled to six continents. He was also known for his backyard ice skating rink and for his well-groomed yard. Lucille died on Aug. 8, 1996, in Sioux City.
He is survived by his children, five daughters, Pam and Randy Kramer of Sergeant Bluff, Janet Williams of Sioux City, Mary Kay and Ken Miller of Salix, Iowa, LuAnn and Steve Mosier of Sioux City, and Joellen and David Fravel of Sioux City, and son, Steve of Omaha; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sophie Williams; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Joseph Fravel; and his brother, Eddie Williams.
