SIOUX CITY -- Donna M. Nelson, 60, of Sioux City passed away March 22, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Donna was born March 31, 1949, in Sioux City, to Richard and Evelyn (Ballard) Walding. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1967. She later graduated from Briar Cliff College in 1971.
She was united in marriage to Daniel L. Nelson on Aug. 7, 1971, in Sioux City. He passed away Jan. 31, 2004. She was employed with First National Bank in Sioux City for 20 years. She was a parish coordinator at St. Michael's Catholic Church. She was also employed with Shop-Ko for 10 years, retiring due to health reasons. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City except the past three months while she was being a snowbird in Arizona.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, being outside, camping, traveling, family gatherings and spoiling her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Carl and Leah Nelson, Ben and Barbara Nelson and Jennifer Nelson, all of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Dan Corey, Tyler, Ayla, Jacob and Ian Nelson; her mother, Evelyn Walding of Sioux City; a sister, Joyce Gastro of Sioux City; her brothers, Leo Walding and Sigrid Johnson of Woodbury, Minn., and Vincent and Sue Walding of Chesterton, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; and a brother-in-law, Patrick Gastro.
