SIOUX CITY -- Donovan Steven "Dump" Wilcox, 78, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by his entire family and friends, after a brief battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John H. Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Air National Guard's 185th Refueling Wing. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to

Donovan Steven "Dump" Wilcox was born Sept. 14, 1930, at Danbury, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Ida (Downing) Wilcox. As a child, he moved with his family to Sioux City, where he attended Sioux City Public Schools. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947, and traveled extensively throughout the world.
Steve married Charlotte Nevis on July 10, 1950, at Reno, Nev. Together they made their home in Sacramento, Calif., for a short time before moving to Sioux City. Steve was employed as a painter. He was a member of the Painter Decorators Union 214 for more than 50 years.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Steve enjoyed working in his and his wife's garden. He liked hunting and fishing, this year being his best year of fishing ever.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Marlin Hansen of Sioux City, Jodi and Rick Beller of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tammy and Jeff Pojar of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sons, Clifford and wife, Barb Wilcox of Sioux City, and Frank Wilcox of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, Marty, Steven, Tyler, Kati, Jennifer, Michelle, Anthony, Jeremiah, Drew, Clifford, Becky, Clinton and Eric; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Roxia Lang of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gilbert Lee Wilcox; and three sisters, Pauline Jessup, Carmen Mann and Sandy Christman.
