NORTH SIOUX CITY | Dora Lou Ransford, 53, North Sioux City, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at her son’s residence surrounded by her family.
Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday in the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Lacey will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
Dora was born on April 25, 1959, in Willmar, Minn., the daughter of Shirley Layman. She was raised in Willmar and attended Lincoln High School in Willmar. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1977.
She married David Ransford and to that union two sons were born, Matthew and Beau. They moved to the Siouxland area in 1984. She worked in the hospitality business for several years.
She was a member of the Catholic faith. Dora enjoyed yard work and watching the Vikings on Sunday. What she loved most was spending time with her sons, grandchildren and the rest of her family.
She is survived by two sons, Matthew and Cassandra of North Sioux City, and Beau of Sioux City; her mother, Shirley Layman of Willmar, Minn.; two grandsons, Easton and Kyler; five brothers, Richard and Cathy Holwerda of Willmar, Danny and Jillann Holwerda of Grand Forks, N.D., James and Mary Layman of Willmar, Ricky and Jody Layman of Balaton, Minn., and Jon and Denice Layman of Willmar; and many nieces and nephews.
