Sioux City - Doris E. Babcock, 92, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at a local hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Doris was born on March 24, 1921, in Rosalie, Neb., the daughter of Garl and Elsie (Keyser) Sailors. She attended school and graduated from Walthill High School in Nebraska.
Doris was united in marriage to Victor Babcock on Dec. 10, 1960, in Sioux City. Her family was her life. She loved taking care of her children and grandchildren and teaching them cooking, sewing and about music. Victor died Jan. 7, 2009. Doris enjoyed sewing and embroidery. She was full of piss-n-vinegar and was a fighter 'til the end.
Survivors include her children, Betty Garner of Sioux City, Connie Hamilton of Sioux City, Steven Garner of Sioux City, Bernard and Mary Garner of Jefferson, S.D., Cheryl and Pat Boyle of Jackson, Neb., and Donald and Karlene Garner of Salix, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Harriet Garner of Middleburg, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Keith Sailors of Lyons, Neb., and Hillman Sailors of Rosalie, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Victor; two sons, Gary and Doug; an infant daughter, Kristie Kay; and siblings, Lyle Sailors, Leona Chambers, Margaret Peterson, Evelyn Piper, Howard, Ronald, Fulton, Guy, Garlie and Frank Sailors, Joyce Gilson and Lois Overton.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
