Doris Prescott Nash (Woodford)

SIOUX CITY -- Doris Nash, 92, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant of Central Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa.

Doris was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Sergeant Bluff, to Homer and Nina (Prescott) Woodford. She was the great-granddaughter of Luther Woodford, an early Sergeant Bluff settler. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1934. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1940. She taught business subjects for one year in Hornick (Iowa) High School and several years at Charter Oak (Iowa) High School, where she also was the principal.

She married Allan F. Nash in 1941. During his service during World War II, she worked for the Civil Service in Sioux City and Great Falls, Mont. After his discharge from the service, they moved to Denison, Iowa. In 1985, the couple retired to Horseshoe Bend, Ark. They lived there until 2009, when they moved back to Sioux City to be nearer family members.

She is survived by her husband, Allan Nash of Sioux City; three children, Robert and Martha Nash of Omaha, Barbara and Dale Holdiman of Sioux City and John and Jodi Nash of Lafayette, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Kristine Mucher, Jenny Dillingham, Katy Jetter, Julie Romero, Laurie Holdiman, Sara Nash, Dan Nash and Dylan Nash; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Mucher, Brinton Mucher and Miles Nash Jetter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and a brother.
