Doris Mae Wingert (Larson)

Doris Mae Wingert, 70, of Sioux City, formerly of Bronson, Iowa, died following a six-month battle with cancer Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at her residence with family members present.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Doris was born Nov. 27, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Gustaf Adolf and Viola Mabel (Morgan) Larson. She grew up and resided in Sioux City. She attended Sioux City schools.

On April 30, 1955, she married Roland Wingert. The couple resided in the rural Bronson area. After his death in 1996, she returned to Sioux City. She was a homemaker and a in-home day care provider. She later worked at Countryside Retirement Center until her illness.

She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and a former member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson. She was involved with Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Senior Help Mate, Cooking With Love, Bible study, the Leah Circle and St. Mark Prison Ministry. She was a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed gardening, traveling, games, puzzles, crocheting, going to work, and time spent with her family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was also known for having a good sense of humor.

Survivors include seven children and spouses, David and Carma Wingert of Sloan, Iowa, Virginia and Jason Meng of Buffalo City, Wis., Jody and Wayne Wooten of Bronson, Iowa, Dale and Sue Wingert of Sioux City, Jean and Clyde Vondrak of Bronson, Tom and Tracy Wingert of Ogden, Utah, and Kris and Tom Brouwer of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren, Gabe, Daniel, Christopher, Angela, Melissa, Jason, Sara, Shannon, Becky, Todd, Vanessa, Adam, Emily, Tommy. Taylour, Laura and Skyler; seven great-grandchildren, Christian, Savannah, Madison, Raeleigh, Kadance, Mckenna and Matthew; a sister and her husband, Rosemary and Ron Sutton of Waverly, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Robert and Christina Larson of San Magel, Mexico; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Calkin and Arlene and her husband, David Krom; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Robert and Joyce Wingert and Alan and Colleen Wingert; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Lowell Swanson; and her mother and father-in-law, Helen and Carl Wingert.
