Dorothy M. Henry, 90, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Merlin Schrad will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on Nov. 28, 1922, in Laurel, Neb., the daughter of Victor and Florence (Fleming) Henry. She was raised in Laurel and Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1940. Dorothy worked as a secretary for many firms in Sioux City including Citizens’ Savings and Loan and for the clerk of the United Sates District Court. She retired in 1984.
Dorothy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America-Ave Maria Court and the Catholic Women’s League, where she volunteered at the Bargain Center and the Royal Neighbors. She also helped with Meals-on-Wheels. Her family was the most important part of her life. She was truly an inspiration to her nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Theresa and Tom Kozney, Jim and Patti Lohr, Greg and Roxanne Lohr, Barbara Lohr, Martha and Ray Steil, Peter and Bev Lohr, Richard and Kathy Lohr, Barbara and Bernie Jung, Dianne and Bill Ryan, Julianna and Ed Webb, Rick and Michal Everist, Janet and Dave Pynn, Rob and Joette Everist, Dr. Rick and Candi Henry, Greg and Deb Henry, Sheila and Joe Wickert; many grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Shirley Henry; and brother-in-law, Rick Everist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard; two sisters, Helen and her husband Dr. Fred Lohr, and Leanette Everist; her niece, Ellen Johnson; and grandniece, Cecelia Lohr.
