Dorothy M. Houchins

Dorothy Mae Houchins, 85, of Sioux City joined her Savior on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3204 South Lakeport St., in Sioux City, with the Rev. David Zirpel officiating. Burial will be in Heisler Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. Dorothy was born on May 15, 1930, to Arthur Fischer and Jessie Hennings Fischer on a farm between Ute and Soldier, Iowa.
She married Delroy Houchins on Feb. 9, 1951. As an Air Force family, they lived in several U.S. states, Germany and France.
She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 50 years. In service to the Lord, she enjoyed working with the church library, making gifts for new members and evangelism ministries, and assisting with dinners and luncheons. She provided child care to many families, ensuring those children knew of God's love for them. She enjoyed gardening, along with cooking for her loved ones and managing her home.
Dorothy's survivors include her son, Arthur Houchins of Sioux City and his daughters, Pamela McNaughton and Kristin King; daughter, Irene Bauza of San Diego, Calif., and her children, Samuel and Katie Bauza; son Allan's children, Amy Post and Jordan Houchins; daughter Ina Miller's children, Brian Deal and Heather Miller; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda and Janice; sister-in-law, Charlotte; and family by marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delroy Houchins; son, Allan Houchins; daughter, Ina Miller; great-granddaughter, Journey Angelina; sisters, Ruby and Evelyn; brothers, John and William; and stepsisters and stepbrothers.
