SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy Jean Hutchins, 84, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Countryside Retirement Center, after a brief illness, with her family present by her side.
Services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born on April 19, 1927 in Sioux City, to Eugene A. and Frances (Crowland) Leriger. She grew up and attended St. Boniface Catholic School. She later attended and graduated from Central High School in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Fred Hutchins on July 13, 1945 in Sioux City. He passed away Dec. 12, 1997 in Sioux City. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She worked in housekeeping at Home Federal Savings and Loan, retiring in 1979. She then later worked at Lutheran Charities and retired from there in 1985.
She was of the Catholic faith. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, crocheting, gardening, yard work, loved to shop, country music and dancing in her younger years. She loved people and had many friends.
Survivors include her children, Kathleen D. Martin and Dan Bower of Sioux City, Patti Pranschke of Castana, Iowa, and Robert Hutchins and Deb Yates of Sioux City; a brother, Bob Leriger of Lancaster, Calif.; grandchildren, Terri Anderson, Robert Pranschke Jr., Ronald Hutchins and Robbin Pappas, Dawn Neal and Kim; and great-grandchildren, Marinda Golden, Cassidy Pranschke, Camyrn Hutchins, Trisha, Kindra and Melissa Alberts and Emma Neal.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; a granddaughter, Christina Newton; a grandson, Daniel Hutchins; and son-in-law, Chuck Martin.
Memorials may be directed in Dorothy's name to Hospice of Siouxland.
