Dorothy was born in Denison, Iowa, on May 20, 1922, to Elmer and Minnie (Brodersen) Malone. She attended Lutheran Elementary School through the eighth grade, when she had to end her education to work and help support her family during the Depression years. Her father saw many hard times, since he came to Iowa with his siblings on the Orphan Train from New York.
Dorothy married Alvin Kollbaum when she was 16 years old. She and Alvin had two sons, Richard and James Kollbaum. The family farmed for many years in Ida Grove, Iowa. Later, they resided in Battle Creek, Iowa, where Dorothy managed, worked, and owned Dot's Tavern. She settled in Sioux City in 1970 with her son, Jim.
On June 26, 1971, Dorothy married Robert Kamp of Sioux City. She enlarged her family that day to include three more children, daughters, Robin Cowart, Jeri Lundblad, and son, Mark Kamp. She was a full-time wife, mother and homemaker for the remainder of her life. She was a beloved mom to many of her nieces, nephews and friends also.
Dorothy loved to cook, bake and visit. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, going to the boat to gamble a little, eating out, especially with her sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Don Bales, attending Red Hat Lady's events, traveling, camping, fishing, although she was not the person to catch the fish. For many years she was the Christmas frosting/decorating elf for the cookies made by neighbor, Rita Christian. Rita and husband, Bob, have been devoted friends/helpers for Dorothy and Robert over the years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob"; sons and daughters-in-law, Dick (Nancy) Kollbaum, Jim (Nancy) Kollbaum, and Mark (Renee) Kamp; daughters and spouse, Robin Cowart, and Jeri (Dave) Lundblad; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
