Dorothy (Ryan) Plotner-LoCoco, 94, of Sioux City passed away June 25, 2015 at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center while surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date in Wyoming, Ill. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral.
Dorothy was born on June 17, 1921, in Wyoming, Ill., to William and Elizabeth (Daly) Ryan. She attended grade school at Valley Center and graduated high school in 1939.
She married Clifford Plotner in 1940 and to this union two children were born. Dorothy and Clifford farmed near Walnut, Ill. for many years. Dorothy had a big garden so well cared for that people drove by to see it. She also canned the whole season. After moving to Missouri, Dorothy and Cliff divorced. She married Russell LoCoco in 1966. After learning the motel business, Dorothy worked her way up to executive housekeeper for Ramada Inn. She put together a brand new program in Seattle. She hired and trained all of her maids and house men. Everything had to be perfect, not even a crooked picture. On the weekends, Dorothy and Russ would take trips to mines and saw such beautiful scenery that they never forgot it. After semi-retiring, Dorothy managed apartments.
She was a great cook and had started to eat healthy all the time. She loved reading, watching Westerns, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly McLay of McCook Lake, S.D.; her son, Clifford W. Plotner, Boling of Brook, Ill.; brother, William Ryan who is 92, and fought in World War II in the Philippines and Guadalcanal under MacArthur, who lives in Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, Duane, Doug, Brad, Shane, Kelly, and Lisa; and three great-grandchildren, Emily, Ian, and Ryler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell LoCoco; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
