SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy J. Stone, 88, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at her sister's residence.
Services will be 1 p.m Friday at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Dorothy was born April 11, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of George and Lillian (Humphrey) Harris. She grew up in Sioux City. She attended South Sioux City Schools, graduating in 1942.
She married Marvin Stone on June 5, 1942, in South Sioux City. He passed away June 13, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Siouxland.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She also babysat and worked in the pediatric department at a Sioux City hospital.
She was a long-standing member of St. James United Methodist Church. She loved reading her Bible daily, and had a strong love for Jesus.
Family activities included camping with family, gardening, cooking and having her family gather together.
Survivors include her children, Georgia and Harley Plum of Sioux City, Marvin Stone of Sioux City, Richard and Kathy Stone of Onawa, Iowa, Kathy and Preston DeZeeuw of Big Springs, Texas, Wendy Stone of South Sioux City, Jeff and Shelley Stone of Sioux City and Linda Goodall of Shreveport, La.; 27 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Kruithoff of Sioux City, Betty Johnson of Sioux City, Sonnie Crowe of Pensacola, Fla., and Berta Grabes of Lancaster, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; two brothers, Gene and Martin Harris; and two sisters, Linda Greenly and Helen Harris.
