SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy C. Urban, 91, of Sioux City died Monday, May 31, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be Friday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Werley of Grace United Methodist Church will officiate.
Dorothy was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Paullina, Iowa, the daughter of Max and Myrtle (Craig) Lanham. She was raised on a farm in the Paullina area and graduated from Paullina High School. She later attended N.B.T College in Sioux City.
Dorothy married Paul P. Urban on Nov. 11,1939, in Paullina. The couple lived in Northwest Iowa all of their lives and moved to Sioux City in 1975. She worked at the Soil Conservation Office in Le Mars, Iowa, and for Department of Motors Vehicles in Sioux City. She retired in 1980. Paul died on Feb. 17, 1995 in Sioux City.
Dorothy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She and her husband were active at the Siouxland Senior Center. She also served as a senior companion. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge and golfing at the Floyd Golf Course. What she loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Dave and Gloria Urban and Don and Alisa Urban; five grandchildren, Shane Urban, Brian and Stephanie Urban, Brett and Joy Urban, Todd and Ileen Urban, Scott and Diane Urban; nine great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Charles and Alice Lanham; a sister, Gladys Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Catherine Nelson.
A memorial has been established in her name in lieu of flowers.
