SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy G. Verlinden, 93, of Sioux City, beloved mother of Judy, Nancy, Vickie and Matt and beloved wife of Charles Verlinden, passed away April 10, 2011, at a local nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today in Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. David Choate of Third Presbyterian Church officiating. Dorothy will be buried next to her husband. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born July 17, 1917, in Kingsley, Iowa, to Dwight and Fay (Ward) Walden. She was raised in Kingsley.
On April 11, 1947, she married Charles Verlinden in Onawa, Iowa. He passed away on Oct. 11, 1991. She was a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area. She worked at Wincharger during World War II. Following the war, she was a homemaker.
She was involved in numerous church activities at Third Presbyterian Church. She was a library aid at a local elementary school. She enjoyed traveling and reading.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents.
