Dorothy Mae Weidner, 88, of Kingsley, Iowa, formerly of Moville, Iowa and Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at Kingsley Specialty Care.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born in Waterbury, Neb., on Jan. 5, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Gladys (Queen) Hickmon. The family moved to Sioux City when Dorothy was young. She attended Sioux City Community Schools, and graduated from Central High School.
She was united in marriage with Jim Mercer, and the couple later divorced. She then married Tom Weidner and they later divorced. Dorothy lived in Sioux City most of her life until five years ago, when she moved to Moville to be closer to family, and four years ago she became a resident of Kingsley Specialty Care.
She worked in food service for a period of time. She then worked at Aalfs Mfg in Sioux City. She also traveled a great deal working as a trainer and handler for Greyhound racing dogs.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Ron Mercer, Roger Mercer, and John Mercer and his wife, Karen all of Moville; her grandchildren, Brittney, Corey, Ryan, Tim, and Eric and their families; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Nelson, and Shirley Fender.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
